PAIN - IT'S REAL - HOW TO DEAL WITH IT

We don’t always know how to move past our pain or help others do the same. Here are 4 things we can do in our pain to help us through it.

1. Pray. This may sound obvious, but God wants our sorrow. He longs for us to pour out our anger, worry, uncertainty, doubt, grief, and fear. He wants it all. Action: Pray through the Psalms — one every day. These moving, honest prayers will help heal those broken places.

2. Reflect on what God has done. Sometimes we need a change of perspective. Remembering what we’ve faced and how far we’ve come often gives us the courage to continue. It may not always feel like it, but this is evidence of God’s love for us. Action: Make a list. Write down things He has done, while you wait on Him to do more.

3. Believe in what you can’t see. We don’t always understand the trial, the why’s, or the reason behind our pain. We question and wonder and worry while we wait for a reprieve. God is faithful. He is with us. Even when we can’t trace His hand in our lives, we can trust that somehow, someway, He is good. And He will work for our good for His glory. Hold on. Action: Memorize and quote Psalm 23 daily.

4. Look around you. There are often people in our lives who have either faced the mountain looming in front of us or who are a mile behind us, ready to scale it. We can either receive encouragement from them or be an encouragement to them. God does not waste our pain. He uses it to redeem us, and we can use it to help others. Action: Write or call a friend today and remind them they aren’t alone.

MONTHLY MISSIONS UPDATE

"For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor with a shield." Psalm 5:12

Our missionaries John & Rachel Hiskey and Pastors in Guinea Bissau, West Africa have asked us to pray specifically for:
  • Please pray for a motorcycle for Professor Barros. Also, please pray for 3 more Pastors who REALLY need motorcycles. A quality motorcycle with all necessary documents, costs about $2,500 US.
  • Construction has begun again on a Guest House. It is really looking good. We will be having 3 construction crews working on it next week. We hope to be moving in around June or July. However, this is Africa. Please pray for the safety of the workers and the swift completion of the project. The next item on Pr. Tony's agenda is to get a well and water system for the base.
  • PTL! The Radio station and generator are on the way to being repaired. Broken parts have (hopefully) been identified and are being shipped. When they arrive, HCJB will be sending a technician over to help identify what went wrong and initiate preventative measures. Both HCJB radio and Caterpillar generators say they couldn't see any way a lightening strike could do such damage. But, we know there is a spiritual element to it all. Please pray for the safe transport of all needed parts and continual protection of the station. Isolated believers found it so encouraging and Non believers are asking to have people come to their villages so they can ask questions and learn more.
  • One of  our churches here is needing about 40 church pews. The school in Daharatu that Barb and Skeeter established now has 6 grades. The well has been dug, but it needs to be cemented in (open wells and little kids don't mix too well) and a rope and bucket system installed. Also the roof is in need of repair. Please pray for these needs.

Evangeline St. Clair Byrnes, also a missionary of our church family, Departs this week for 4 months for Tacloban, Philippines. As you know Evangeline was born and raised there and has been a missionary with UTAP for many years.  We are proud to support her both financially and in prayer. Evangeline has asked us to specifically pray for funding and building projects. We are also collecting canned proteins for her and will ship the end of March. Canned tuna, spam, vienna sausages, chicken, etc.

ONE MINUTE PRAYER
Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.   John 14:13-14  (ESV)

ONE MINUTE EACH NIGHT: In WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace. This had an amazing effect as bombing stopped!

There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America. If you would like to participate: each evening at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (8:00 PM Central, 7:00 PM Mountain, 6:00 PM Pacific), stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying: for REVIVAL and obedience to the LORD, for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, and for peace in the world.

If you know anyone who would like to participate, please pass this along. Someone said if people really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have.

MONTHLY MISSIONS UPDATE

"For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor with a shield." Psalm 5:12

Sherry Bernheisel (pictured in cream jacket) has moved for full time mission work in La Mision, Baja Mexico.  Sherry went on our Mexico Mission Trip in June 2014 and felt the Lord calling her to serve there full time.  She will be working with the children at the Open Arms Ministry (www.openarmsmexico.org), the Door of Faith Orphanage (www.dofo.org), and at the Rosarito Beach Christian Church. Sherry has been a big part of our children's ministry here at Desert Springs Church for years and will be extremely missed by all of us and the children. Please pray for Sherry as she will have many cultural changes to adapt to and trusting on the Lord for her every need. We know He is faithful to those He has called according to His purpose.

Evangeline St. Clair Byrnes, also a member of our church family, is getting ready to leave for 4 months for Tacloban, Philippines.  As you know Evangeline was born and raised there and has been a missionary with UTAP for many years.  We are proud to support her both financially and in prayer. Evangeline has asked us to specifically pray for funding and building projects. There is still so much to be done to restore the homes, churches and businesses after the typhoon and many floods.

Our YWAM missionaries Adam & Alei Hussey, serving in Manila, Phillipines, have just requested prayer for their young daughter Eliana, who is having terrible food allergies.  Adam is finishing another video ministry project and asks for prayer for endurance. Additionally, they are getting ready to start two new outreaches for kids that will be focused on getting deeper in God's word.

COMPASSION FOR OTHERS

The teaching and example of Jesus having compassion for others underscores God’s desire that followers of Jesus will be recognized by their tangible expression of love for all people:

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. — 1 John 3:17–18

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. — James 2:14–17

In other words, love always requires tangible expression. It needs hands and feet.

The bottom line for both the brilliant theologian and the five-year-old child: love God and love each other — period. Everything else derives from that.  This week...share God's love, make an effort to reach out in action and in truth.

LET'S COME TOGETHER

I find it hard to press through insecurities and discouragement to head out in search of community. But we are called to do it anyway. To be a fully devoted follower of Christ, we have to be willing to surrender our needs, our weakness, our agenda, and our own insecurities so we can remember our purpose to show love to the world and rest in our identity found in Christ.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
(2 Corinthians 12:9)

This week let’s come together and ask ourselves the following questions:
  1. What if you surrendered that insecurity to God this week and offered yourself fully to His service?
  2. What might He ask you to do? What unexpected adventures might He send you on? Will you willingly follow Him, even if it is risky?
  3. Who is God calling you to love and why might you be the one He has chosen for the mission?

Our weakness is the very thing God wants to use to show His love in powerful ways to someone else. It’s risky to be vulnerable, but do it anyway!
